Having previously served on the Murray School Board I am passionate about public education. It is the lifeblood of our society. We must continue to increase funding for public education. Since I've been in the Legislature (2015) we have added almost $1 billion new money into public education. I am committed to doing even more. I want to help improve our schools. Teacher morale is a top priority for me. We will never be able to pay them enough to truly compensate them for their dedication. So we must do everything we can to elevate the profession in the eyes of the community.
Improve Efficiencies in State Government with Technology
I've been able to pass two very important pieces of legislation and associated funding, the Single-Sign-On Business Portal and the Technology Innovation Bill. As a technologist, I know the power of automation. The best way to improve efficiencies in State government is using technology. I will continue to look for additional ways that we can streamline state government via technology.
Help the Less
I am passionate about helping those who are struggling. I have helped pass the Medicaid expansion bill this past year (2018). Once the plan is approved by the U.S. Administration, we will be able to provide health care, without incurring any additional costs, to thousands of needy individuals. We also need to protect this population from those who would prey upon them, particularly the drug cartels. Strong law enforcement is critical. Providing training, education and support to this vulnerable population is critical.
I will work to help this population any way that I can.
