Martin Luther King Day

Martin Luther King Day

On this day, we celebrate the things that unite us.

In our very deeply divided country, some would want us to continue screaming and yelling, feigning offense and disgust at every little misstep and seeking always to catch the other side at their worst and then use those moments to define them. But this is no way to heal a nation. This is no way to build a successful home or community or country. That would require love, understanding and compassion.

And as for Martin Luther King, Jr. and his thoughts, “I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear.” On this day, let us resolve to commemorate his life by choosing to “stick with love” and try to better understand those with whom we don’t agree, serve those we don’t know and care for those who most need our compassion.
